Orleans County, Vermont - October 23, 2009
Good economic news for the Northeast Kingdom: It looks like 200 new jobs are on the way.
Vermont officials traveling in Asia helped seal a deal with a South Korean company to build a $50 million manufacturing plant in Orleans County.
Governor Jim Douglas and Jay Peak Ski Resort owner Bill Stenger reached the agreement with AnC Bio. The facility will make portable dialysis machines, cell therapy machines, vaccines and other bio-medical supplies. It will also conduct cutting-edge research and development.
This was all made possible through the EB-5 program, where foreign investors contribute $500,000 to a project to get 2-year Visas.
Tayt Brooks from the Department of Housing and Community Affairs joined us for a LIVE INTERVIEW on the Channel 3 News at 6 p.m.
Brooks said these are good-paying jobs and the company is still looking at a couple of different sites in Orleans County. Their timeline for this is for 2011.
Brooks said there are no security concerns with the EB-5 program because the investors still must go through the regular immigration and naturalization checks.
