Free Tire Recycling Draws a Crowd

Burlington, Vermont - October 24, 2009

Getting rid of old tires can get expensive, and so a lot of folks took advantage of a free tire day at the Chittenden Solid Waste District. All of the CSWD drop-off stations took old bald rubber for free. They usually charge $2.75 per tire.

Jim McGinness of Burlington said, "I think it's great, more and more so all the time. It's a great place to recycle materials and it's a great place to pass on things that have found no more use."

Scott Crandall of Burlington added, "The pile of tires in my yard brought me down today. I'm sure it's what brings everybody down."

The freebies were good only for Saturday. One worker estimated that free tire day attracted fifty percent more people to Chittenden County solid waste drop-offs.
