Brattleboro, Vermont - October 28, 2009
Police continue to investigate the robbery of two Chittenden Banks Tuesday.
Police don't believe the hold-ups in Brattleboro and Swanton are connected, but both may be part of regional crime sprees.
The Swanton robbery is the third in Franklin County in the past month, and in each case, the suspect was similarly dressed with a similar description.
The Brattleboro case may be just the latest drug-related robbery in the area.
"We do get a lot of traffic coming up from Massachusetts when it comes to drugs. Some of these banks are close tot eh interstate, that could be another reason. The robberies that we have had in the past, they haven't been tied together in the sense that it is a series of individuals working together to do these. It seems to be a variety of different characters, but if I had to guess the money is being used for drugs," said Detective Erik Johnson of the Brattleboro Police Department.
There have been six bank robberies in Vermont this year, five of them in the past month.
