NASHUA, N.H. (AP) - The Nashua area's school population is slipping, just as enrollments in many parts of New England are doing.
The Nashua Telegraph says start-of-year enrollment figures also show that Nashua's elementary school population seems to have bottomed out. Milford stands out as the Nashua area's only school district with stable enrollment at all levels, while Amherst and Hollis are losing students relatively quickly.
The figures reflect trends that have been seen throughout New Hampshire and New England for several years as young adults leave the region. New Hampshire's public school population peaked around 2002 and has slipped since.
