N.Y. Texting/Driving Law Goes Into Effect

Burlington, Vermont - November 1, 2009

Texting while driving on New York roads could now cost you a lot of money.

New York's new texting law went into effect Sunday. It forbids the use of mobile devices for reading, typing and sending text messages while driving. Violators can be fined up to $150 dollars. It was already illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving in New York.

A similar texting bill pending before the Vermont Legislature appears to have broad support.
