Watertown, New York - November 2, 2009
Democrat Bill Owens got a big boost Monday from Vice President Joe Biden, as Owens fights for the state's 23rd Congressional Seat.
Biden appeared at a campaign rally for Owens in Watertown, New York. The Plattsburgh Democrat is trying to shore-up support in the western part of the huge 23rd district.
Owens hopes to break the Republicans century-old lock on the seat.
"They may not have more room for moderate views in upstate New York, but we have room, we have room," said Biden.
Former Vermont governor and DNC chairman Howard Dean has been watching the race closely. He says the race could be decided by Scozzafava supporters.
"Voter turnout is going to be a little higher here than normally. But I don't think there's any way of really knowing what's going on. There'll be some Scozzafava voters who will vote Republican because they always do, and there will be a lot of them who really hoped for some moderation who will vote for the Democrat," said Dean.
Voters will go to the polls Tuesday for the special election. Though Scozzafava is out, her name will still be on the ballot, that could be yet another factor in the outcome.
