ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - In the furious sprint before polls open Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden is trying to reinvigorate a Democrat's campaign in upstate New York's 23rd Congressional race, while former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is calling on voters to support the surging conservative candidate.
Biden urged voters to back Democratic nominee Bill Owens Tuesday at a rally in Watertown. Giuliani has recorded a call for Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman, saying electing him is the only way to stop Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's agenda in Washington.
The two-way fight became furious when Republican Dierdre Scozzafava made a surprise exit from the race over the weekend, after poll numbers and support plummeted, and after weeks of criticism that she was too liberal.
