NEW YORK (AP) - New York City Police have arrested a 23-year-old suspect in connection with a pair of rapes in Queens.
Police say Malcolm Johnson, of Queens, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with rape, sexual assault, robbery, unlawful imprisonment and criminal possession of a weapon. Information about his lawyer was not immediately available.
Last week, police say a young woman was followed as she got out of a subway by a man who flashed a gun and raped her in an alley behind a church.
Police say the second victim was waiting at a bus stop early next day when she was approached by a man with a gun who took her to a top-floor building landing where she was raped.
In response to the attacks, police beefed up foot patrols and sent undercover detectives to the Far Rockaway neighborhood.
