BRENTWOOD, N.H. (AP) - A Danville man facing charges he killed is landlord by repeatedly hitting him in the head with an ax-like weapon wants to claim he was acting in self-defense.
Fifty-year-old Paul McDonald is due to go on trial for first-degree murder in January for the June 2008 killing of 54-year-old Richard Wilcox.
After his arrest, McDonald claimed he was drinking with Wilcox and then woke up to find Wilcox trying to perform a sex act on him. An autopsy found Wilcox was hit in the head at least 16 times.
The New Hampshire Union Leader says prosecutors say McDonald hasn't shown any evidence to support the self-defense claim.
After Wilcox was killed, McDonald drove to Hubbardton, Vt., where he was arrested a week later.
