NEW YORK (AP) - A Long Island personal trainer who helped a police officer lose nearly half his body weight for a TV show has been sentenced to seven years in prison for child abuse.

Anthony Badalamenti (bah-dah-lah-MEN'-tee) of Glen Cove was convicted last June of assault, child endangerment and weapons charges. Prosecutors say Badalamenti, who is 31, repeatedly beat his girlfriend's 6-year-old son with weightlifting belts. The boy was treated for lacerations and bruises.

Badalamenti's girlfriend, 30-year-old Jessica Muniz (MOON'-eez), pleaded guilty last week to the same charges in Nassau County Court and was sentenced to two years.

A spokesman for Nassau DA Kathleen Rice says Badalamenti's workout regimen helped a Long Island police officer drop 186 pounds during Season 4 of NBC's reality show "The Biggest Loser."
