FBI says "Grandpa Bandit" may have hit Syracuse bank

Associated Press - November 5, 2009 3:05 AM ET

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - The FBI says a balding, middle-aged robber nicknamed the "Grandpa Bandit" is a suspect in a recent bank holdup in Syracuse.

The robber is also linked to eight other bank heists across the country.

The FBI and Syracuse police said Wednesday that the man who robbed the Solvay Bank in the State Tower Building on Sept. 22 resembles a man caught on surveillance tape at at least five other banks.

The FBI believes the "Grandpa Bandit" is behind robberies in Houston, Atlanta, Roanoake, Va., Little Rock, Ark., Dallas, Birmingham, Ala., and Tallahassee, Fla.

"America's Most Wanted" says he's around 5-foot-10, overweight and balding.
