NEW YORK (AP) - Seven New York City high school educators are being celebrated for excellence in teaching math and science.

The awards are sponsored by the Fund for the City of New York and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

The winners include Richard Lee. The biology teacher at Bronx High School of Science has trained several finalists in the Intel Science Talent Search.

Winner Michael Klimetz of John Dewey High School has conducted groundbreaking research on Southeast Asian plate tectonics (tehk-TAH'-nihks.) That's a branch of geology that studies the folding and faulting of the earth's crust.

Each award comes with $5,000 for the teacher and $2,500 for the school.

A ceremony was scheduled Thursday in the Great Hall at Cooper Union.
