NEW YORK (AP) - Prosecutors say a 1-time Manhattan college staffer convicted of ripping off his former employer raised money to repay the school by roping investors into funding a fictitious online fitness magazine.
Mark Andrew Moore was being held on $150,000 cash bond after pleading not guilty Thursday to charges including grand larceny and tax fraud. His lawyer says Moore is "looking forward to receiving justice."
Manhattan prosecutors say the 40-year-old lured dozens of people into putting up a total of $365,000 to launch an online personal fitness forum but created only a skeletal Web site.
Prosecutors say he used $15,000 to pay restitution from a 2000 grand larceny conviction for stealing from Hunter College. The college had no immediate information about that case.
