Associated Press - November 6, 2009 9:15 AM ET

DEXTER, N.Y. (AP) - The body of a state trooper killed in an on-duty accident in the Hudson Valley has been brought back to his northern New York hometown for burial.

A procession of state police vehicles on Thursday escorted Trooper David Lane's body to the village of Dexter, on Lake Ontario's northeastern shore 65 miles north of Syracuse.

The 30-year-old Lane was killed Wednesday afternoon when his patrol car hit a utility pole after he tried to pass another vehicle on a road in Catskill, where he was stationed.

Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.

State police say Friday that funeral arrangements are not yet complete.

Lane, a 4-year state police veteran who had served in the Army, was engaged to be married.
