McHugh Praises First Responders

Fort Hood, Texas - October 6, 2009

Thursday's attack at Fort Hood was the deadliest shooting incident at a U.S. military base in history.

Army Secretary John McHugh, a former New York Congressman from our region, praised those who helped save lives on the base.

"I want to give a special thanks and a word of admiration to the first responders, those who came when the call went out in minutes of the shots being fired in the center and those soldiers who utilized their battlefield life-saving training in the building as the situation was still unfolding to save lives and we were told that those actions did indeed save lives," he said.

The alleged shooter recently caught the attention of officials, because of possible Internet posts about suicide bombings and other threats.
