Burlington, Vermont - November 8, 2009 Democrats in Congress narrowly passed a health care bill Saturday night. It now moves on to the Senate.
Vermont Representative Peter Welch called the vote historic and says it advances health care further than its ever been since medicaid was established forty-five years ago. "It was an incredible experience to be there for Vermont because a lot of what is in the healthcare bill really come out of things Vermonters have done prescription price negotiation, focusing on the way we're going to deliver care, getting rid of the anti-trust exemption like Senator Leahy's been working on for years," Welch said.
Welch serves on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which helped write the bill.
