Don't Overload at the Gym to Lose Weight

Essex, Vermont - November 9, 2009

It's no surprise that there are only two really ways to lose weight: eat less and get more exercise.

Despite the obvious solutions, there's some good news for those who would like to shed some pounds. Jean Harvey-Berino, dean of the UVM Nutrition Department, told the Women Business Owners Network you don't have to run five miles or do rigorous exercises. To lose weight, just exercise moderately several times instead of all at once.

"If we're talking about just being more active and we're talking about burning calories, energy expenditure, it doesn't matter whether it's in one long bout or multiple short bouts. You can take three ten-minute walks. Just as good as one thirty-minute walk," Harvey-Berino says.

She cited a study that found people who took more short exercise bouts actually lost more weight.
