Prisoner Attempts Escape from Porter Medical Center

Middlebury, Vermont - November 9, 2009

Some Tense moments Monday evening at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury when a prisoner being treated there, tried to escape.  Police say 29-year-old Robert Blaise of Middlebury was brought in after complaints of respiratory problems, after he passed out during an arraignment at the District Court in Middlebury.

After he was treated, police say a deputy sheriff agreed to loosen the prisoner's leg irons for the trip to back to the prison.  Blaise then tried to escape. The attempted escape resulted in the deputy's gun coming loose, but Blaise was immediately recaptured and back in irons before he could grab the gun.
