Burlington, Vermont - November 9, 2009

A UVM student was in court today for allegedly raping a female student off campus.

Colman Flaherty was arraigned on charges of aggravated sexual assault. The victim told police she passed out drunk at Flaherty's apartment and woke up naked in his bed.

"Obviously this is a serious charge. This is a case we don't see very often rising out of UVM, but it's a case we'll take with great importance and investigate it to the fullest extent, because at the end of the day we have to make sure every woman in this community feels safe," said Chittenden County Prosecutor T.J. Donovan.

Flaherty was released on $10,000 bail. He was ordered to report to the UVM police daily and submit to an alcohol test.
