South Burlington, Vermont - November 9, 2009
Monday was Take a Veteran to School Day in South Burlington.
Ten military veterans talked to kids at the Tuttle Middle School in South Burlington. They represented the Navy, Army, Air Guard and National Guard, and served in World War II, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. The veterans answered questions from students about their experiences.
"Hopefully they can take a look at a veteran and learn something. Maybe one thing that we said out of all of these panel people here today that may change their life. That may make them better people for the United States," said Command Sergeant Major Toby Quick.
"It really makes me appreciate how we are free right now. Larry had a lot of great stories to tell the WWII veteran, and it really made me appreciate all of the time and effort that they've put in to giving us freedom," said Hunter Riehle, a student.
"I hope that they understand that it's really important that we respect the veterans and show our thank-yous to them and really take in consideration what they've done for us," said Addison Guyette, a student.
This was third annual Take a Veteran to School Day.
