AMBER ALERT: Issued in Maine and Vermont

Burlington, Vermont - November 10, 2009

Vermonters are being asked to help with an Amber Alert that was issued in Maine.

Police are looking for 2-year-old Hailey Traynham. They say she was taken Monday by her father, Gary Traynham, after a violent attack on the girl's mother in Sanford, Maine.

Gary Traynham, 38, was driving a 1998 green Dodge 1500 pickup truck with Maine registration 8629 NB. He is described as 5'11", 230 lbs. with balding brown hair, hazel eyes and a dark goatee. There are also reports that he may be armed with a knife and should be considered dangerous.

Hailey Traynham has shoulder length blond hair, blue eyes and weighs between 35 and 50 lbs.

Police believe Traynham took the girl to New Hampshire and may come to Vermont, so an Amber Alert was issued here. Police have posted information on highway road signs.

"His last known location is in the Lakes region of New Hampshire. In a situation of desperation he may go anywhere. That includes the northern border and they've been notified as well," Vt. State Police Lt. Mark Lauer explained.
