General Store Fire Officially Ruled Arson

Putney, Vermont - November 10, 2009

The fire that destroyed the Putney General Store has been ruled an act of arson.

After a lengthy investigation by authorities the fire is determined to be intentional and criminal in nature. There is a $15,000 reward for anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

The store was in the process of being brought back to life after it sustained serious damage from another fire a year and a half earlier. The cause of that fire was determined to be an electrical short.

A nearby building and apartments were also damaged by the fire. Total damages are estimated at around $1 million.

Anyone with information is asked to call Vermont State Police at (802) 257-7101.
