Brookfield, Vermont - November 11, 2009
A Royalton man is facing felony charges for allegedly leaving his injured son behind when he ran away from a crash.
Police say Christopher Messier was driving on Route 65 in Brookfield early Sunday morning when he lost control of his car. It went off the road, rolling several times. Messier reportedly went to a home for help, covered in blood and disoriented, but took off when the homeowners offered to call 911.
Soon after Gifford Medical Center alerted police they had a person in the ER who seemed to be the victim of a crash. That person was Messier's 15-year-old son. Police located Messier at his home on Monday.
Police say speed and alcohol contributed to the crash. Messier now faces several charges, including a felony charge for leaving the scene of an accident.
