Montpelier, Vermont - November 13, 2009
A new grant program will help Vermont communities and nonprofit groups build and maintain recreation trails.
Gov. Jim Douglas announced the $500,000 program which will be given out in $20,000 grants if there's a local match. The grants will help with property acquisition, development, repairs and trail upkeep. $500 mini-grants are also available for tools and signs, and there's also funding for training.
The Department of Forest, Parks and Recreation is holding a free grant-writing workshop on Dec. 9 from 3 - 4 p.m. at Vermont Technical College in Randolph.
