Drown Accused of Running Down Construction Worker

Northfield, Vermont - November 13, 2009

Former U.S. Senate candidate Larry Drown is accused of intentionally running over a construction worker.

The incident allegedly happened Friday morning in Northfield at the intersection of Water and Wall Streets.

Northfield police say Larry Drown ran over a construction worker-- a woman flagging cars. He allegedly hit her, and then backed up and hit her again.

The woman is listed in fair condition at Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin. Her name is not being released.

Now Drown is charged with aggravated assault and gross negligent operation with injury resulting.

Drown ran for statewide office four times and lost every time. He ran for U.S. Senate in '06, U.S. House in '04, Vermont attorney general in '02, and Vermont secretary of state in 2000.

This is not Drown's first criminal charge in a road rage incident. In December 2006 Drown was charged with assault and disorderly conduct after he allegedly chased down another driver in Northfield. When the other person got out of their car, Drown allegedly called him several names, shoved him, and then slammed the door of the victim's vehicle. Drown was acquitted on those charges.
