Albany, New York - November 15, 2009
The U.S. Justice Department is expanding its probe into possible anti-competitive behavior by milk processors to include New York dairy farms.
Christine Varney, the Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Federal Antitrust Division was in St. Albans back in September to hear from struggling Vermont dairy farmers.
Varney will hold similar meetings in New York in the coming weeks. This as Senator Chuck Schumer's office released a report that found the price paid to New York dairy farmers fell by almost half since January. At the same time, the retail price of milk fell just 15 percent.
