CONTINENTAL VILLAGE, N.Y. (AP) - New York State police say a truck driver was killed in a fiery accident while attempting to avoid an oncoming car on Route 9 in northern Westchester County.
Police say a southbound car crossed the center lane and veered in front of the tractor trailer at about 2:30 p.m. The truck swerved off the roadway and struck a tree, its cab bursting into flames. Police say the driver died at the scene.
Emergency workers had to use power tools to remove the other driver, who was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Part of the roadway has been closed in both directions.
