Essex Jct. Man Sent to Prison for Firing Shots During Drug Deal

Burlington, Vermont - November 17, 2009

An Essex Junction man will spend five years in federal prison for firing a gun during a drug deal.

Police say 22-year-old Matthew Ellis fired two shots at a car in Essex Junction as it sped away in September, 2008. Ellis reportedly told police he shot at the car because his friend was clinging onto the passenger side door and was being pulled down the street.

Police then learned the shooting happened during a drug deal and upgraded the original reckless endangerment charge. Ellis pleaded guilty on Monday.
