The Vermont Board of Education voted yes Tuesday to study a potential merger of two supervisory unions in Chittenden County.
Right now Essex is in one district. Essex Junction and Westford are in another. Under the plan, they would all be in a single supervisory union. The proposal would not combine schools or school boards, but would reduce the number of superintendents. Essex superintendent Jim Fitzpatrick is retiring at the end of the year.
