NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities are trying to find out who left a dead fish wrapped in a political campaign sign on the doorstep of a defeated Long Island politician.
Islip (EYE'-slihp) Town Councilman Christopher Bodkin was on vacation when the package arrived. His son found it on Nov. 8.
The politician says he is upset and considers the act a threat.
Bodkin was among board members voting for town layoffs, an action that sparked protests. He lost his re-election bid Nov. 3.
His son, Christian Bodkin, says police took photographs and kept the packaging as evidence, but left behind the 2-foot fish. He says he threw it into the woods, where it apparently was eaten by animals.
