Burlington Kids Collect Food

Burlington, Vermont - November 18, 2009

Students at Champlain Elementary in Burlington collected food for the food shelf Wednesday.

Fourth- and fifth-graders went door to door in local neighborhoods loading up their wagons with donated goods. This is the first time the school has collected food for the food shelf, but they hope to do it again in the future.

"They're learning about the fact that not everybody is as fortunate as they are and they can do something as simple as collecting food to help out," said Shannon Roesch of Champlain Elementary School.

"Well it helps lots of people and it makes them feel great about who they are," said Theo Davis of Champlain Elementary School.

The school says the exercise was a valuable educational and charitable experience for the kids.
