Albany, New York - November 20, 2009
The North Country's legislative delegation is blaming the Democrats for failing to take action on New York's budget crisis.
Lawmakers closed out a special session without taking any action on the $3.2 billion deficit.
"We show up at 4:00, the whole Republican conference and there's no one in the seats on the other side," said Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward, R-Willsboro. "So another day wasted. Another day closer to running out of money in New York State."
"We have not yet passed a single bill or had any real discussion on reducing the budget deficit," said Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, R-Peru. "The taxpayers of the state of New York deserve better and I'm certainly disappointed for the entire state and certainly those people who live in the North Country."
And now a warning from Wall Street: Moody's Investors Service is warning that New York's credit rating could be hurt if the Legislature fails to address the budget deficit. A lowered credit rating would raise the cost of borrowing money-- adding to the state's fiscal problems.
