Norwich Freshmen Charged in Assault

Northfield, Vermont - November 25, 2009

Two freshmen at Norwich University are facing charges for an alleged brutal assault on campus last month.

Police say Michael Masse, 18, and Jonathan Philbrook, 18, both of Massachusetts, lured another male freshman into a dorm room for what he thought was a party. Police say the victim was then restrained and physically and sexually assaulted. Police say they have recovered a video of the incident and charged Masse and Philbrook with several charges including assault and lewd and lascivious conduct.

Norwich officials say 13 students at the military college were present for the assault and they will all be disciplined by the school. All of the students still attend the school but some may face expulsion hearings.
