MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Two official investigations are concluding that a Hardwick police officer was justified when he fired his weapon at a car that was being driven toward him.
Separate investigations by the office of the Vermont Attorney General and the Washington County State's Attorney both concluded Officer Michael Gero reasonably believed he was in danger when he fired two shots at the vehicle May 29.
There were no injuries.
The investigations say Gero was looking for Carey Bird, who was reported to be suicidal, carrying a handgun and threatening to shoot anyone who tried to arrest him.
Gero spotted Bird in Woodbury.
The car was driven toward Gero, who fired twice after Bird refused to stop.
Bird was later arrested. He is now facing charges.
