
Montpelier, Vermont - November 26, 2009
WHEREAS, for generations, Vermonters have given thanks for our blessings, the beauty of our Green Mountains, bountiful harvests, caring neighbors and community spirit; and
WHEREAS, Vermonters are thankful for the blessings that are ours by virtue of the fact that we make this state our home; and
WHEREAS, Vermonters have shared their bounty with those in need, whether they live next door or half a world away; and
WHEREAS, Vermonters share an unwavering respect for the land and all its bounty, and are grateful to those who provide us with sustenance; and
WHEREAS, Vermonters, whether alone or joined with families and friends, share this spirit of Thanksgiving; and
WHEREAS, Vermonters pause on this day to remember all those who are hungry or homeless, sick or suffering, frightened or searching, extending to them helping hands and words of comfort; and
WHEREAS, Vermonters' heartfelt gratitude is extended to those men and woman serving in our military around the world and in hostile environments, protecting those ideals we all hold so dear.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, James H. Douglas, Governor, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 26, 2009 as Thanksgiving Day in Vermont.
