WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a New York company under contract with the Westchester County Department of Health was using unlicensed therapists to serve special-needs children.
County police say Bedford Hills-based Care Point Services owner Lisa Bruno was arrested Wednesday on charges of grand larceny. She's accused of double-billing the county for occupational and physical therapy.
The 36-year-old from Westport, Conn., was arraigned and released on $100,000 bail.
She did not immediately reply to a phone message on Thursday afternoon.
2 of the company's employees also were arrested on allegations they worked as therapists without the required state licenses.
Police say they used numbers belonging to therapists who previously had worked for Care Point Services.
The investigation was initiated by the Department of Health, which says it has changed how it verifies credentials of employees of contracted agencies.
