Beer drinkers could see a consolidation of two of Vermont's best-known brands.
The Rutland Herald says Bridgewater-based Long Trail Brewing Company is in negotiations to purchase Middlebury's Otter Creek Brewing. Otter Creek also produces the Wolaver's organic line of beers, which would also be included in the sale.
Company officials won't confirm or deny the potential sale, but that deal would give Long Trail more production capacity and a better nationwide distribution network. Sources say Long Trail is expected to close on the reported deal by the end of the year.
