Republican to Run for Lieutenant Governor

South Burlington, Vermont - December 1, 2009

A state senator wants to be Vermont's next lieutenant governor.

Washington County republican Phil Scott announced his candidacy Tuesday evening. He's a construction contractor and a fixture on the racetrack at Thunder Road. He told supporters he would be a voice of fiscal responsibility in Montpelier.

Phil Scott said, "We need to learn to take care of ourselves again by fixing what's broken and rebuilding our economy and manufacturing capacity with a focus on local energy generation, sustainable agriculture, and forestry."

Scott faces Mark Snelling in the republican primary. Democratic state senator Ed Flanagan and progressive state representative David Zuckerman are also expected to run for lieutenant governor.
