Port Henry, New York - December 28, 2009
New Yorkers had two public viewing locations in the village of Port Henry, just north of the bridge. Unfortunately for everyone on that side of the lake, the snowstorm caused visibility to be limited.
People came from as far away as Florida to witness history. Many arrived hours before the scheduled detonation anticipating the blast, but looking into the snow-filled skies, they were not exactly sure where the bridge was.
Asked if she was disappointed, Marie Snyder, of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., said, "Yes and no, we heard the boom."
"I'm kind of disappointed, I couldn't see it," said Toni Arburr of East Hartford, Conn. "I'm here from Connecticut, but I grew up here, but yeah the noise scared us."
"I'm glad I was here," said Richard Alberty of Middletown Springs.
Probably the best view of the demolition was the live coverage on Channel 3 and on our website. You can watch the replay of the demolition here.
