Port-au-Prince, Haiti - January 21, 2010
Two medical teams from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center are doing well as they work to care for earthquake victims in Haiti.
One team is working in Hinche; the second team is in Port-au-Prince.
DHMC Medical Director Dr. John Butterly says both teams are holding up well, but what they're seeing in Haiti is horrific.
Butterly says some of the team members have had experiences in disaster or war zones before, but some have not.
The doctors and nurses were screened before they were sent down and Butterly says they are all very well-adjusted and competent providers. DHMC has arranged for the team members to have counseling when they return from the quake-torn country if they feel they need it.
Butterly says the hospital is in constant communication with the teams by phone and email.
