Manhunt in N.Y. double murder extends to Vt.

Dannemora, New York - February 2, 2010

Both victims of a double murder in Clinton County were shot to death-- and now a manhunt for the prime suspect has extended into Vermont.

Autopsies on the victims, Tim Carter, 52, and Patricia Howard, 43, of Plattsburgh, conclude that they died of gunshot wounds. Their bodies were found in Carter's home on Route 374 in Dannemora.

Police are now looking for Howard's ex-boyfriend, Tony Pavone, 52. They say he was trespassing at Carter's home on the night of the murders.

Carter and Howard had just started dating.

Police are now calling Pavone the prime suspect in the murders. They say Pavone is considered armed and dangerous. He's a former U.S. Marine and corrections officer with sniper training.

The manhunt for Pavone has also reached into Vermont. Tuesday, fliers were handed out in the Champlain Islands. Police are also searching casinos within driving distance.
