CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Opponents of gay marriage are asking the House to repeal New Hampshire's six-week-old law legalizing the unions.
They also want the House to back a proposed constitutional amendment that defines marriage as between one man and one woman.
The House votes on both measures Wednesday. The Judiciary Committee is recommending that the two proposals be killed.
Gay marriage supporters say gay couples have gotten married without any detrimental impact on society. They also say it would be wrong to enshrine discrimination in the constitution.
Opponents say the consummation of gay unions can't be spoken of in polite society. They also say voters, not lawmakers, should decide if the marriages should be allowed.
