East Burke, Vermont - December 24, 2010
A resident of East Burke has reason to celebrate this holiday season. Ellen Chamberlain purchased a lucky ticket that matched Wednesday's MegaBucks numbers at the Center Tower store in St. Johnsbury.
The store manager who sold the winning ticket says Chamberlain comes in twice a week to test her luck, always using the same numbers.
The ticket is worth $1.7 million. If Chamberlain chooses the cash option, she will walk away with $995,000.
"She cried and she shook and she said I can't believe it and I had been telling her right along because she always wins something little. I said someday you are going to win the big one and she did," store manager Judy Taylor said. "She's a lovely lady, has a lovely family, and can really use the money."
Lottery officials will present the store with check for $17,000 on Wednesday for selling the winning ticket.
