Burlington, Vermont - February 2, 2011
A former Hardwick Electric Department employee pleaded not guilty in federal court on Monday to 13 counts of wire fraud.
The FBI says Joyce Bellavance stole almost $1.5 million from the electric company. She allegedly used the money to buy diamonds, gold, a $350,000 condo in Boston and a $41,000 SUV in addition to several other items.
Bellavance was the office manager and allegedly paid for the items using Hardwick Electric Department checks over a 10-year period. Each count carries a potential 20-year prison term.
