Williamstown, Vermont - February 14, 2011
A major drug bust this weekend in Williamstown.
It started when police in Illinois caught a man transporting 62 pounds of marijuana across the country. That set up a sting on the alleged recipients of the drugs at a home on High Street in Williamstown. A search of the home and two storage facilities turned up more than 100 pounds of marijuana, over 150 thousand dollars in cash, and about 600 Oxycodone pills.
Police arrested 30-year-old Mark Volpe of Williamstown and Ryan Coleman of Lake Tahoe, California. Both men are charged with trafficking marijuana. Police say the drugs seized have a street value in excess of 800-thousand dollars.
"The investigation is ongoing, so there is the potential that additional people could be identified as being involved in this and those people could be out of state and potentially could be charged federally or the state that they're in," said Vermont State Police Capt. Glenn Hall.
The Vermont Drug Task Force also said this case does have the chance of going to Federal prosecutors.
