Pathers aiming high

Friday, February 25th

MIDDLEBURY, VT -- The Middlebury College men's basketball team is 23-1 and ranked third in the country.  They have plenty of guys on their roster who can score, but the Panthers winning formula begins with defense.

"For four seasons in a row we've lead the country in blocked shots, and we're currently leading the country again in Field Goal Percentage defense, so that's really the stamp of our program right now.", says Middlebury head coach Jeff Brown.

That defense is anchored by 6' 10" senior center Andrew Locke and 6'8" junior forward Ryan Sharry, who have combined for 96 blocks between them.  The Panthers also have seven players with at least eleven steals.

Middlebury carries that stifling defense into this weekend's NESCAC championship at Williams.  The Panthers take on seventh ranked Amherst in the semifinals tomorrow afternoon at 4pm.

The winner of that game meets the victor of the other semifinal between the number one ranked Ephs and Trinity on Sunday at 12:00pm.
