With the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant set to shut down on March 21, 2012, many groups are putting the Vernon plant in the spotlight.
More than 600 people gathered for a protest outside the plant this past weekend. The vigil was held to show support for the thousands of people in Japan who are endangered by possible radiation from the Fukushima nuclear plant. That plant was damaged by last week's earthquake and tsunami.
And Monday evening at 7:00 p.m., a public program is scheduled to talk about life after Vermont Yankee. Featuring speakers from numerous renewable power groups, the 'Countdown to Closure and a Green, Nuclear Free Future' event will be held at the Centre Congregational Church at 193 Main St. in Brattleboro.
