"The Scorpion's Sting" is making a huge splash across the country, which keeps the book's author far from her beloved Vermont home.

J.D. Masterson, of Newport, penned this fiction novel that combines mystery, history and conspiracy to make a pleasing, pensive page-turner. The main character, Dr. Magdalena LaSige, is a heroine with a mind of her own, and it's a mind that unlocks secrets the average reader will be shocked by.

Masterson recently won an Honorable Mention for General Fiction at the Los Angeles Bookfest for the first part in the Magdalena LaSige series.

The book can be found anywhere books are sold. The quickest place to order is www.jdmasterson.com, which also includes a list of the author's upcoming appearances. A list of local stores selling the book can be obtained by emailing book@jdmasterson.com.

Masterson will be holding book signings in the lobby of the Green Mountain Suites Hotel, 401 Dorset St., South Burlington, on Monday, April 4, Tuesday, April 5, and Wednesday, April 6, from 4 to 6 p.m.
