(AP) - Investigators will look closely at a broken section of rail to see if it is connected to the commuter train derailment and collision outside New York City that left dozens injured. Meanwhile, the focus begins to shift toward cleanup and rebuilding. The Friday crash of the two Metro-North trains caused Amtrak to suspend service between New York and Boston.

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - Officials say a New York college student was accidentally killed by a police officer as she was held in a headlock by an intruder pointing a gun at her head during a break-in at an off-campus home. Nassau County police said Hofstra University junior Andrea Rebello was killed after being shot in the head when police responded to a break-in early Friday. Police say Dalton Smith was holding a loaded gun to Rebello's head after entering the home looking for valuables.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A New York assemblyman accused of sexually harassing young female staffers for years says he will resign before he's expelled from the Legislature. Assemblyman Vito Lopez informed leaders yesterday he will resign effective tomorrow morning. Two reports last week concluded there's no proof Lopez committed a crime.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The Cuomo administration says about $90 million will be spent this year on construction projects at 50 of the state's parks and historic sites. It says that will cover almost 90 projects to upgrade infrastructure or fix potential health and safety problems. Planning will also begin on 60 more projects to be undertaken in coming years. There are 179 state parks and 35 historic sites in New York.
