The makers of the flu vaccine say they've sold out of all 83 million doses, which means the quantity now available to the public is in limited supply. Parents in Vermont and around the country converged on doctors offices following recent reports of children dying from the flu out west.
In New York, health officials are limiting the vaccine to the elderly or chronically ill.
"The CDC, State health department are looking at local health units to tighten up who we are giving vaccine to and have recommended that we only vaccinate those who are at high risk," says Laurie Eamer of the New York Health Department.
The North Country only has about 700 doses left, and has already seen some serious flu cases.
"So if we vaccinate those who are at high risk, hopefully that will prevent large number of flu cases to occur in our community," says Eamer.
Vermont's Health Department is not making the same restrictions as New York, though Vermont is encouraging those who are most vulnerable to get to a doctor for vaccination.
